PB&J Music Studios is made up of the private studio of Peter Bass and Jessica Lane. Located in south Burlington, Peter and Jessica have been teaching in London and Toronto since 2009 and are excited to amalgamate their forces and encourage the growth of their home studio. They have made their home in Burlington, Ontario with studios growing in Toronto, as well. Peter and Jessica have a great passion for both performance and teaching which they love to share with their students!
Voice lessons, singing and theory lessons in Toronto and Burlington
Peter Bass is a baritone based out of Toronto. Originally from Edmonton, Alberta, Peter recently completed his Bachelor of Music in Voice Performance at the University of Toronto and his Master of Music at the University of Western Ontario. Previous to his university training, Peter completed the Theatre Arts diploma at Grant MacEwan College and proceeded to work as an actor for the next eight years.
This theatre training has given Peter many tools to successfully perform roles in the operatic repertoire. Recent roles include Pizarro in "Fidelio" (2018), Fanimal in "Der Rosenkavalier" (2018), Tonio in "Pagliacci" (2017), Schaunard in "La Boheme" (2017), Angelotti and Sciarrone in "Tosca" (2017). Other roles incluse the title role of Gianni Schicchi and Ford in Verdi's Falstaff, Achilla in Giulio Cesare (2014), Basilio in The Barber of Cowtown (2014), Vater in Hänsel und Gretel (2014), and Dulcamara in L'Elisir d'Amore (2014) the title role in Puccini’s Gianni Schicchi (2013), Sid in Albert Herring and the Perückenmacher in Ariadne Auf Naxos (2012), Peter Quince in A Midsummer’s Night Dream (2012), and multiple roles in Dean Burry’s A Brother’s Grimm. In addition to opera, Peter has performed in many musical theatre productions. Notable productions include Mary Poppins, She Loves Me, Johnny Guitar, Promises, Promises, Titanic, Anything Goes and the world premier of the musical adaptation of Shakespeare’s A Winter’s Tale.
Peter was awarded the Douglas Bodle-St. Andrew’s Award: awarded to a student who, upon graduating from the Performance program in Voice, is deemed to have the strongest potential in the area of Oratorio and concert repertoire. In 2016, he was a finalist and prize winner in the London Music Scholarship Foundation Competition. Peter has performed both Faure’s Requiem and Mozart’s Requiem. He has also sung many oratorio selections such as Britten’s War Requiem, Dvorak’s Requiem, Saint-Saens’ Oratorio de Noël, Handel’s Messiah, and Mendelssohn’s Paulus and Elijah to name a few.
Peter’s passion for music and drama is infectious both on and off stage.
Jessica is a young, up and coming, award winning, Toronto based soprano . She graduated with her Master of Music in Performance and Literature, voice from the University of Western Ontario.
In 2015, Jessica received two prizes from The Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions, first prize with Kammeroper Schloss Rheinsberg (2016) and has recently returned from the Neil Semer Voice Institute in Coesfeld, Germany. Jessica has coached and taken master classes from several renowned coaches and has been reviewed as a"strong and consistent performer"(Halifax Herald, 2011) and “a sincere performer...sure to impress on the audition circuit” (Opera Canada, 2012).
Notable opera credits include: Tosca in "Tosca" with Kammeroper Schloss Rheinsberg (2016), Opera York (2016) and Southern Ontario Lyric Opera (2017), Adalgisa in "Norma" with Opera by Request (2016) Mutter and Hexe in “Hänsel und Gretel” with MYOpera (2014), Foreign Princess in "Rusalka" with the Halifax Summer Opera Fetival (2014), the title role in Carmen with the Halifax Summer Opera Workshop (2012), Der Komponist in Strauss' “Ariadne auf Naxos” with Opera NUOVA (2012), Nicklausse in “Les Contes d'Hoffmann” (HSOW 2011), Marcellina in “Le Nozze di Figaro” with UWOpera (2011).
Ms. Lane's musical theatre credits include: Bloody Mary in “South Pacific” (UWOpera 2011), B.J. in “Smokey Joe's Cafe” (UWOpera 2010), Alice Beane in “Titanic: A New Musical” (The Singers Theatre 2005).
As an instructor, Jessica runs a private voice studio. She began instructing voice at Performing Alliance Dance School in London Ontario in 2009. She quickly developed a passion for working with young people and new voices of all ages. She continued instructing with Burlington Student Theatre, musical directing “High School Musical” and “Aladdin.” Jessica currently teaches in Toronto where students have recently gained entrance into major university music programs and arts high schools (ESA, Rosedale and Claude Watson), have been awarded top prizes in San Francisco, the North York Music Festival, been cast in the Halifax Summer Opera Festival, received high RCM grades and have landed lead roles in musicals and plays. As well, she has acted as an adjudicator for the National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS) and gives masterclasses throughout Ontario.
