PB&J Music Studios is made up of the combined husband and wife studios of Peter Bass and Jessica Lane. Since 2009, Jessica and Peter have taught voices and run busy studios in London, Toronto, Burlington and Germany.

As avid performers, Jessica and Peter have made their life's work of creating a safe and holistic learning experience for all their students. From professional singers and actors to recreational performers, Peter and Jessica focus on the entire physical and emotional being as the instrument, solid technical prowess, a powerful musical imagination and refined ear. As teachers, we are process based, which yields improved performance, lowers anxiety and produces excellent results!

Joy and Fear, Honesty and Awesomeness: these are the inspirations for Dramatic Baritone Peter Bass for every role he undertakes. Mr. Bass is emerging as a formidable Germanic singer having sung across Canada, the United States and Europe. 

 

Opera roles include Friedrich von Telramund (Lohengrin), Pizarro (Fidelio), the title role in Gianni Schicchi, Ford (Falstaff), Achilla (Giulio Cesare), Schaunard & Marcello (La Boheme), Basilio (The Barber of Cowtown), Dulcamara (L’elisir d’amore) and Vater (Hänsel und Gretel). Other roles include Sid (Albert Herring), Perückenmacher (Ariadne Auf Naxos), Peter Quince (A Midsummer’s Night Dream), and multiple roles in A Brother’s Grimm.

 

A graduate  of the University of Western Ontario and the University of Toronto in Vocal Performance Bachelor of Music in Voice Performance at the University of Toronto (2013) and for 5 years prior, he was a working actor, having completed the Theatre Arts program at Grant MacEwan College in Edmonton, Alberta.

 

With a vast interest base, Peter has also enjoyed successes in Musical Theatre and oratorio. Notable musical theatre productions include She Loves Me; Johnny Guitar; Promises, Promises; Titanic; Anything Goes and the world premiere of the musical adaptation of Shakespeare’s A Winter’s Tale. Peter has performed both Faure’s Requiem and Mozart’s Requiem and Handel’s Messiah, along with many oratorio selections such as Britten’s War Requiem, Dvorak’s Requiem, Saint-Saens’ Oratorio de Noël, Handel’s Messiah, and Mendelssohn’s Paulus and Elijah to name a few.

 

In everything Peter Bass does, be it ugliness, anger, and love, there is beauty.

A passionate vocal instructor, Peter's students have succeeded in landing major musical theatre and operatic roles across the country, as well as ranking in top festivals.

“...spirited, sensitive and vocally versatile” (Opera Canada), Jessica Lane, an internationally award winning soprano is as inspiring to watch as she is to listen. A two time consecutive prize winner from the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions and the first place winner of the Kammeroper Schloss Rheinsberg International Competition, Ms. Lane is making her mark on the opera scene.

 

While still in her 20’s, Jessica made her European debut singing the title role in "Tosca" with Kammeroper Schloss Rheinsberg. She had the opportunity to reprise this role twice; once with Opera York in Toronto and again with Southern Ontario Lyric Opera’s inaugural production in March 2017. 

 

A fixture in the Southern Ontario concert scene, engaged by the Etobicoke Philharmonic, Cambridge Symphony, Milton Philharmonic, and Burlington Symphony Orchestra,  Jessica is thrilled to be making her Toronto Concert Orchestra debut singing in "Caruso".

 

In addition to her widely acclaimed portrayal of Tosca, additional credits include: Adalgisa in "Norma", Mutter and Hexe in “Hänsel und Gretel”, Foreign Princess in "Rusalka", and back in the times of Ms. Lane the mezzo, the title role in Carmen, Der Komponist in Strauss' “Ariadne auf Naxos”, Nicklausse in “Les Contes d'Hoffmann”, and Marcellina in “Le Nozze di Figaro”.

Ms. Lane's musical theatre credits include: Bloody Mary in “South Pacific” (UWOpera 2011), B.J. in “Smokey Joe's Cafe” (UWOpera 2010), Alice Beane in “Titanic: A New Musical” (The Singers Theatre 2005).

As an instructor, Jessica runs a private voice studio. She began instructing voice at Performing Alliance Dance School in London Ontario in 2009. She quickly developed a passion for working with young people and new voices of all ages. She continued instructing with Burlington Student Theatre, musical directing “High School Musical” and “Aladdin.” Jessica currently teaches in Toronto and Burlington where students have recently gained entrance into major university music programs and arts high schools (ESA, Rosedale and Claude Watson),  have been awarded top prizes in San Francisco, the North York Music Festival, been cast in the Halifax Summer Opera Festival, received high RCM grades and have landed lead roles in musicals and plays. As well, she has acted as an adjudicator for the National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS) and gives masterclasses throughout Ontario.
